1. Jamaal Charles – Running Back

Year after year Jamaal Charles has been the biggest playmaker for the Chiefs. He’s always a threat to score from anywhere on the field.

The 2014 season saw the lowest total of rushing yards that Charles has gained in the last three seasons with 1,033. On a brighter note, he scored the second-highest total rushing touchdowns in his career with nine. This was found on his NFL.com profile.

Charles possesses elite breakaway speed as well as the elusiveness to immediately change direction and make defenders miss. In fact, Charles is so good at making defenders miss that during the 2014 training camp he actually broke teammate Sanders Commings‘s ankle by juking him, per ESPN.com.

While none of us like seeing teammates get hurt, its hard not to laugh at the fact that Charles juked so hard that he literally broke a defender’s ankle.

I believe the dip in Charles’s production comes from the fact that the Chiefs’ offensive line in 2014 was abysmal. With the exception of center Rodney Hudson, there were no real bright spots on the offensive line.

Another reason that Charles’ numbers fell is the emergence of Knile Davis. While we all know that Charles is the primary running back, Davis has been nothing short of solid in filling the number two spot.

This season, the Chiefs have added some talent to the offensive line with guards Ben Grubbs and Paul Fanaika. These two solid acquisitions should immediately improve the ground game for the Chiefs.

Let’s also not forget that Charles is also a weapon in the passing game too. He accelerates so quickly that he can be a very dangerous weapon when running screens. Whenever Charles and De’Anthony Thomas are on the field together, opposing defenses have to focus heavily on just those two alone.

2015 will be another showing of just how Jamaal Charles is the most effective offensive player on the Chiefs’ roster. If this improved offensive line can open more holes for him to run through, expect Charles to find the promise land several times.

So, there you have it. My list of who I believe are the top ten most effective playmakers going into the 2015 season. What do you all think? Who is the most effective player?
