Kansas State Wildcats Basketball: Marcus Foster Dismissed From Team

Kansas State Wildcats basketball fans could see this coming sooner or later, but the hope was that sophomore guard and leading scorer Marcus Foster would straighten himself out to help lift the basketball program to another NCAA tournament in 2016. Unfortunately, head coach Bruce Weber did not feel the same way as Foster was dismissed on Tuesday along with Tre Harris while Jevon Thomas will transfer, according to SI.com.

The Wildcats are losing 45 points of their 63 points per game average from the 2015 season along with the graduation of Nino Williams and Thomas Gipson. While things may look dark for K-State, the release of Foster might be a blessing in disguise.

While Foster averaged 12 points per game, he was inconsistent in his performance. In his final seven games as a Wildcat, Foster only averaged seven points per game along with shooting 25% from the field. It’s also worth noting that Foster was scoreless in the Big 12 tournament against TCU, missing all five shot attempts.

His lack of performance is only to blame on himself. Foster was not motivated enough nor did he have the desire to put in the extra work that is required by an elite college basketball star in order to lead his team to success.

Violating team rules and serving a three game suspension when the Wildcats needed him most did not help the Wildcats overcome the five game losing streak they had been on in early February. Foster was not serious about his game this season and his play showed it (Source of link courtesy of Fox Sports).

As great of an athlete as Foster is and as much as he did help the Wildcats get into the NCAA tournament in 2014, (and helped secure crucial victories over Iowa State and Oklahoma twice for that matter), Kansas State is better off without him.

Coach Weber is bringing in guys that buy into his system and want to play for him. When Weber has a system that functions, they are one of the biggest threats in college basketball.

Even though they are losing over 75% of their scoring from this season, the Wildcats are still a bright looking team. Wesley Iwandu is a talented enough guard to where he can fill in that role of Foster and give the Wildcats crucial starting minutes. Promise was shown this season with Nigel Johnson as well and DJ Johnson and Stephen Hurt will provide K-State with a decent inside presence.

Point guard Kamou Stokes from Baltimore and Barry Brown from Florida are bright prospects and hopefully can step up immediately. Four star center, Eric Cobb, will help replace Gipson’s scoring, as he is one of the best scorers inside from the class of 2015.

Behind all of the stats and the win/loss column, Coach Weber is bringing in guys that buy into his system and want to play for him. When Weber has a system that functions, they are one of the biggest threats in college basketball.

Weber and the Wildcats have moved on from Foster’s dismissal and so should the K-State family. Let’s be honest, dismissing Marcus Foster was all for the best.
