Kansas Jayhawks: How Deep Of A Run Can They Make?
It’s that time of year! Sunday was every college basketball fans favorite day: Selection Sunday. The Kansas Jayhawks were given a number two seed in the 2015 NCAA Tournament by the NCAA committee, but were not given an easy road by any means. In their first game, the Hawks have a matchup against a New Mexico State team that is currently on a 13 game winning streak.
That being said, the Jayhawks have immensely more talent than the number 15 seed Aggies and should be able to move on to the round of 32. Next in line would be the winner of the Indiana and Wichita State game.
What a game it would be if the Shockers could knock off the Hoosiers and advance to play the Jayhawks in a battle of the two best teams in Kansas. This game is one that could cause some issues for the Jayhawks.

The Shockers have great guards who can score the basketball, and the Jayhawks have had trouble with this before this season. Look for Fred VanFleet, Ron Baker, and Tekele Cotton to lead the way for the Shockers throughout their tournament run this year.
If Indiana happens to beat the Shockers in the second round, I see the Jayhawks having their way with a team that is mostly led by a very undersized point guard in Yogi Ferrell, who would struggle against a long, athletic team like Kansas.
If Kansas can get past either the Shockers or the Hoosiers in the round of 32, they would then most likely meet the Notre Dame Irish in the Sweet 16.
The Irish have been a bit of a surprise this season in a tough ACC Conference. Their impressive résumé headlines two wins against a number one seeded Duke team and two wins against a tough North Carolina squad.
A matchup with Kansas would be a good one, as both teams can score the basketball. Jerian Grant would be the biggest offensive threat on either end of the floor, and it could cost the Jayhawks another shot at Kentucky.
It would be a big-time matchup to watch if the Irish did indeed meet up with the Jayhawks in the Sweet 16, as both teams come from the best two conferences in college basketball in the ACC and the Big 12. Kansas Head Coach Bill Self would need to come up with an effective plan defensively, as the Irish score an average of almost 80 points per game.
If the Jayhawks were to advance past the Irish (or whoever else they would meet in the Sweet 16), they would almost inevitably have to play against the Kentucky Wildcats who, in their first matchup, absolutely squashed the Hawks by 32 points, and really made Kansas fans doubt how successful their team truly could be this year.
Kansas fans shouldn’t expect a Final Four appearance this year, but they should be ready for some tough and entertaining games coming up ahead. Get ready folks, it’s the most exciting few weeks of the sports year!
