KC Chiefs: Rodney Hudson To Sign With Raiders
By John Viril

Kansas City Chiefs center Rodney Hudson is expected to sign with the Oakland Raiders for a 5-year, $44.5 million deal when free-agency opens on Tuesday, according to CBSSports.com’s Jason LaCanfora.
Rodney Hudson is going to Oakland. $44.5M on a 5 year deal. Someone taking the Raiders' money.

LaCanfora also says that Hudson turned down an in-season offer from the KC Chiefs for $6 million per season:
Hudson turned down $6m a year from KC during the season. Chiefs hoped to keep him. One of top OL on market.

The signing puts a big hole right in the middle of the KC Chiefs offensive line. Pro Football Focus’ metrics rated Hudson the third best center in the NFL last season.

Apparently, the KC Chiefs were trying to sign the 25-year-old Rodney Hudson, but could not compete with the Raiders. Oakland is one of seven teams under the minimum 89% cash spending floor on the salary cap and will need to add $4o million to their payroll each of the next two seasons to avoid penalty.
Hudson came into his own at center in the 2014 season, after the KC Chiefs drafted him in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Rodney Hudson was a two-time All-American as a guard at Florida State. The Chiefs moved him to center in his rookie season and he won the starting job in his second season, however he only played three games in 2012 due to injury.
The news leaves the Kansas City Chiefs with three options at center:
1.) They could promote reserve Eric Kush. Kush played well in a 2013 start against the Chargers in the last game of the season after coming to the KC Chiefs as a 6th round pick that April. 2.) The team could sign a less expensive option in free-agent such as Oakland’s Stefen Wisniewski. 3.) Or, Chiefs general manager John Dorsey could address the position in the draft.
Unfortunately, none of those alternatives appears as good for the KC Chiefs offensive line as bringing back Rodney Hudson. Now, the KC Chiefs are looking at acquiring three new starters on the offensive line to pair with the disappointing left tackle Eric Fisher, and right guard Zach Fulton.
If the Kansas City Chiefs decide to go the free-agent route, they will need to clear more cap space in the near future. That could mean cutting defensive end Mike DeVito, backup quarterback Chase Daniel, or restructuring quarterback Alex Smith‘s contract.
Whatever the KC Chiefs decide, Dorsey will clearly have to do some major remodeling of his roster before the 2015 season begins.
