Devin Funchess provides an interesting role for the KC Chiefs. He is capable of playing at both the tight end and wide receiver position. While Funchess played tight end for the Wolverines, he is entering the draft as a wide receiver (at least in most of the ones I’ve seen him listed in).

You might be thinking, “The Chiefs don’t need a tight end. Travis Kelce is the man!” I agree with you there, but with the recent release of veteran Anthony Fasano, Kansas City needs another tight end to join Kelce.

Plus, you have to keep in mind that Kelce was out his entire rookie season with an injury. I’m not saying that he’s injury prone, but injuries happen in sports and the Chiefs can’t completely rely on Kelce to be their lone tight end this season.

Funchess, on the other hand, played for three years at Michigan. While the 2014 season wasn’t a very good one for the Wolverines, Funchess was a playmaker during his time there and if he’s still on the board in the second round when the Chiefs select, I say take him.

The other tight end I would be interested in taking is Maxx Williams out of Minnesota, who Terez Paylor projected going to the Chiefs in round one. I scoffed at that at the time, but now that Fasano is gone, it’s definitely time to consider grabbing a tight end early on in the draft.

Oh and it’s worth noting that I passed up on Dorial Green-Beckham to draft Devin Funchess. Don’t let me down Funchess.
