Kansas State Wildcats: What Does Upset Against Kansas Jayhawks Mean
By Grant Cohen
The Kansas State Wildcats played their best game of the season against their in-state rival, Kansas, Monday night in a 70-63 victory. For the Wildcats, this win over the eighth ranked Jayhawks means much more than another number in the win column.

The K-State Wildcats showed they are capable of beating the best teams in the conference, and while they will not make the NCAA tournament as an at large, they should not be counted out of the big dance just yet.
This win comes as a huge wake up call to Bruce Weber’s team, proving they are capable of competing and beating the best. Thomas Gipson scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds, his average numbers. Nigel Johnson added 20 huge points off the bench. The Wildcat’s star Marcus Foster did not have one of his most quality games:
Six points, 3-13 from the field.
Think about it. The best player for K-State, and leading scorer for the Kansas State Wildcats (13 points per game), did not play a great game. Yet, they still shocked number eight-ranked Kansas at the Octagon of Doom.
K-State showed why they can be a threat to any team in the country.
Not only did the victory help keep Bruce Weber’s job alive, Marcus Foster from transferring next year, and from the Kansas State Wildcats falling apart for years to come, the win will help boost K-State’s momentum heading into the Big 12 tournament. While the Kansas State Wildcats celebrate this season’s signature win, there is still a small hope that Kansas State could be dancing in March.
While the Kansas State Wildcats celebrate this season’s signature win, there is still a small hope that Kansas State could be dancing in March.
As of today, the K-State Wildcats would be a seven seed in the tournament, Playing last place Texas Tech and then Iowa State or Kansas again. It is safe to say now that the Wildcats can get victories over both of those teams if they played like they did on Monday.
While the Wildcats celebrate this big victory, one has to wonder if it is a season-changing win. Is there is still a small hope that Kansas State could be dancing in March?
While this season wasn’t what many K-State fans had in mind, it’s still nice to see some fight left in these guys after a lackluster 2014-2015 campaign. Hopefully the momentum carries over into next season and the Kansas State Wildcats can make a strong run in the NCAA Tournament.
