Kansas Jayhawks Are Peaking At The Right Time
Here we are in early February (man the NCAA basketball season can fly by) and the Kansas Jayhawks are again at the top of the Big 12 with a 2-game lead over both #15 West Virginia and $11 Iowa State.
Looking back on the season so far, just a little over a month ago this Kansas team was looking like the one that may just end the Jayhawk reign at the top of the conference since 2002.

They had the downright awful performance against the Temple Owls, the game where they gave up a 20-point lead to Utah, but held on, but maybe most memorable, the Florida game in Allen Fieldhouse where the Jayhawks had to come back from a 20+ deficit.
Since Big 12 conference play has started, things have looked better for the Kansas Jayhawks, but they obviously haven’t been perfect.
First, they let a mediocre Baylor team keep up with them, and ultimately won by just one point. Next, they lost to a pretty good Iowa State team on the road, and just one game later gave up ANOTHER 20+ point lead to the Oklahoma Sooners and honestly probably should have lost the game. A late push saved them from serious humiliation in front of their home crowd.
Since the Oklahoma game, the Kansas Jayhawks have turned over a new leaf. They beat #17 Texas on the road in a game that many had them losing, they then beat TCU, K-State, and avenged the loss to Iowa State in Lawrence, showing who really belongs on the top of the conference.
That Iowa State game may have arguably been the toughest game left on Kansas’ regular season schedule, and they posted a big ‘W’ on their resumé.
Over these last four games since the Iowa State loss, it seems Bill Self has finally sparked his team to go on a run. The team seems to be gelling better than any time before in this season as a whole.
Contributions are coming from all spots on the roster from the arguably best player for the Kansas Jayhawks in Perry Ellis, all the way down to the bench such as sharp-shooter Branden Greene. Man has he been on fire, now shooting 51% from 3-point range on the season.
This team has a very balanced attack that involves scoring from almost everybody in the starting lineup. Ellis, Mason, Oubre, or Selden could go off on any given night. They are becoming one tough team to guard defensively.
The rest of the 2015 season is not going to be a cake-walk, but I think they have surpassed the most difficult part of their schedule, and I now see them keeping their momentum and possibly running the table the rest of the way (no pressure).
The Kansas Jayhawks do have a few tough games coming up, including two games vs. West Virginia, and a game in Oklahoma against the Sooners to wrap up their regular season.
Get ready Kansas fans, the next two months (give or take) are going to be a fun ride.
