Kansas City Chiefs: A Look At The 2015 Schedule

facebooktwitterreddit

The Kansas City Chiefs‘ off season began in late 2014, but there isn’t much to discuss until the free agency period hits in a few weeks. I thought it might be interesting to take another peek at Kansas City’s schedule for 2015 and analyze it a little deeper.

As of now, only one game has a set date and that’s on November 1st in London against the Detroit Lions. Chiefs fans were pretty peeved about this game due to having to give up a home game (the Chiefs will be considered the home team in London, lucky them), but hopefully it will give the team some nice benefits down the road.

Aside from that particular game, we don’t know when the Chiefs play which team, but we do know the opponents for 2015. The home games will be against the three AFC West rivals, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Buffalo. The away games will be against the three AFC West rivals, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Green Bay, Minnesota, and Houston (Source of link: FB Schedules).

The AFC West will play the AFC North and NFC North in 2015, which will both be difficult divisions to play against. The AFC North sent three teams to the playoffs last season and the NFC North sent two.

Obviously the Green Bay Packers are always a tough team with Aaron Rodgers under center, but remember when the Chiefs ruined their undefeated season in 2011? Anything can happen.

The Lions smoked the Chiefs in 2011 in week two of the season, but this is a completely different Kansas City Chiefs team four years later. Even though Kansas City got gypped and has to play this game in London, I still think they can take the Lions.

The Vikings and Bears aren’t really scary teams so I think Kansas City will handle those assuming nothing big happens during the off season.

As for the AFC North, the Chiefs always have problems with the Steelers. They’ve only been able to beat them once in the past five match ups. The last time the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Pittsburgh Steelers was during the 2009 season in Matt Cassel‘s inaugural season with the Chiefs. That needs to change this year and it hopefully will, what with the Chiefs being the home team for once.

The Bengals are a hit or miss team. They either look terrific or really bad so hopefully bad Andy Dalton shows up on that particular day.

Baltimore advanced the farthest out of all the AFC North teams during the playoffs, but barely lost to the eventual Super Bowl champs. The Chiefs almost beat the Ravens during their pitiful 2-14 season in 2012, but still lost by a field goal. That was the game where people cheered on Cassel’s injury in case anyone forgot.

The Browns are a mess right now. Josh Gordon is suspended indefinitely for violating team rules and Johnny Manziel apparently checked himself into rehab on Monday and now that leaves a huge question mark as far as the quarterback position goes (Source of links: Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com). Cleveland does have a good defense though, which will likely be their strongest link in 2015, as it was in 2014.

As for the other teams remaining on the schedule, it’s hard to say what will happen in the division itself. Kansas City was swept by Denver, but managed to sweep San Diego for the first time since 2003 (yeah, when Drew Brees was the quarterback there). KC also split the series with Oakland, but should have swept them in all honesty.

Houston has one of the best defenses in the league with J.J. Watt running things there. Buffalo has basically become a division rival to Kansas City with this being the eighth straight year the two have met. The Chiefs finally get to host the Bills in 2015 after traveling there for three straight seasons.
