Kansas Jayhawks 2008 National Title Team: Where Are They Now
Miami Heat guard Mario Chalmers (15) – Mandatory Credit: Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports
Seasons At Kansas: 3 (2005-2008)
Drafted: 34th overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Mario, Mario, Mario. How things would be different without Mario Chalmers on the team in 2008. And yes I’m talking about his miracle shot that sent the National Championship game into overtime, but he did so much more in that game and really the entire season than just make that shot.
In the Championship game, Chalmers struggled to get the ball to fall, shooting just 5-13 from the field, but ended with 18 points and the “Mario’s miracle” shot that saved the season.

Chalmers was a lights-out 3-point shooter in 2008, and really was what made the offense succeed.
In the NBA, Chalmers is obviously the most notable of the players on the Jayhawks 2008 roster, as he went to four straight NBA Finals with the Miami Heat and LeBron James.
Chalmers has been unfortunately the victim of a bunch of scrutiny when the lights are brightest, as LeBron has been seen over and over yelling at Chalmers for numerous reasons. He has also seemed to struggle in the NBA Finals, most notably in 2014 when he basically was invisible for most of the playoffs.
Other than the occasional struggles in the playoffs, Mario has been a very successful player, and is the starting point guard for one of the best NBA teams in recent memory.
Mario will always be engrained into Kansas fan’s hearts, as that shot is one of the best in not only NCAA history, but in basketball history.
