KC Chiefs Mock Draft: First Round Picks For Non Playoff Teams
With the KC Chiefs‘ season done, it’s time now to shift our attention to the 2015 NFL Draft! For last year’s draft, Josh Michaels used to do mock draft simulators online and I thought it might be fun to do those again this season.
I used a site called Fanspeak and chose to draft for the Kansas City Chiefs, who hold the 17th overall pick. The rest of the picks were chosen by the draft simulator. Here’s who went where:
- Tennessee Titans – Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan State
- Jacksonville Jaguars – Shawn Oakman, DE, Baylor
- Oakland Raiders – Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama
- Washington Redskins – Landon Collins, S, Alabama
- New York Jets – Brandon Scherff, OT, Iowa
- Chicago Bears – Benardrick McKinney, ILB, Mississippi State
- Atlanta Falcons – Randy Gregory, DE, Nebraska
- New York Giants – Shaq Thompson, OLB, Washington
- St. Louis Rams – Marcus Peters, CB, Washington
- Minnesota Vikings- Ronnie Stanley, OT, Notre Dame
- Cleveland Browns – Jaelen Strong, WR, Arizona State
- New Orleans Saints – Vic Beasley, OLB, Clemson Tigers
- Miami Dolphins – Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin
- San Francisco 49ers – Dante Fowler, Jr., DE, Florida
- Houston Texans – Devante Parker, WR, Louisville
- Kansas City Chiefs – Kevin White, WR, West Virginia
- San Diego Chargers – Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford
- Cleveland Browns – Mario Edwards, Jr., DE, Florida State
- Philadelphia Eagles – Eddie Goldman, DT, Florida State
When the Kansas City Chiefs’ pick rolled around, I knew it was a no brainer to take a wide receiver with the 17th overall pick. Last year the Chiefs made a huge mistake by not drafting a single receiver in the best wide receiver draft class of all time. John Dorsey can’t make that mistake this year.
Kevin White was the best wide receiver on the board and for good reason. His senior season consisted of him having 109 receptions for 1,447 yards and 10 touchdowns on the year. Alex Smith would love to have a kid like this out on the field after the crappy receivers he had to throw to in 2014.

At 6’3″ and 210 points, White would look great lined up opposite of Dwayne Bowe (assuming he comes back in 2015). If Bowe doesn’t return to Kansas City, then White very well could be the number one guy for the Chiefs next season.
As for the rest of the mock draft, it’s a no brainer that the Buccaneers will select Marcus Mariota with their first overall draft pick. It’s clear that the team has lost faith in Mike Glennon and that Josh McCown is… Well, Josh McCown. He’s not a franchise quarterback.
I don’t agree with the Titans taking a cornerback with the second overall pick though. Zach Mettenberger shouldn’t be given up on so quickly and I think drafting Amari Cooper would do wonders for the former LSU quarterback. Hopefully I’m right on that because I don’t want the Oakland Raiders to get Cooper. Could you imagine Derek Carr having a weapon like that to throw to? Yikes.
Surprisingly, Jameis Winston was not taken in the first 20 picks according to this simulation. I highly doubt that will happen (should Winston enter the draft) because the NFL is such a quarterback driven league now and teams want their franchise quarterback NOW.
I’m hoping to do several more of these mock draft simulators as the off season for Kansas City continues and hopefully the next few will be the entire draft rather than just the first round.
Who would you like to see the KC Chiefs take in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft?
