Kansas City Chiefs: 2014 Season in Review
Week 5: 22-17 Loss at San Francisco 49ers
After a huge win for the Chiefs, they lost a game that they really should have won when they dropped to the 49ers. Seeing how San Francisco finished out their 2014 campaign proves even more that the Chiefs should have secured this win, but they failed to get anything done after a strong first half.
The biggest storyline in this game was Alex Smith returning to the team that traded him after the 2012 season. Sadly, Smith couldn’t show them who was boss and looked clueless in the second half of the game. When the Chiefs attempted a late comeback, Smith threw an interception to put the game away and left the Chiefs at 2-3 on the year.

This was without a doubt one of the more frustrating games because the Chiefs defense was able to hold San Francisco to five field goals, but Smith and the offense couldn’t make up the points and get the lead. The good news for Kansas City, however, was that this would be the last time they’d be under .500 in the 2014 season.
Side note: Dee Ford infamously ran away from Frank Gore in this game.
Week 7: 23-20 Win at San Diego Chargers
After a much needed bye week, the Chiefs traveled to California once again, but this time to face their hated division rival in the San Diego Chargers. Fans have become accustomed to losing to the Chargers, considering Kansas City has been swept by them the last two years.
This season was a nice change of pace though, as the Chiefs were able to win in San Diego for the first time since 2007 and sit at 3-3 on the year. Everyone says Andy Reid is good coming off of bye weeks and this game put another notch in that belt.
Cairo Santos knocked through the game winning field goal from over 50 yards away. It’s safe to say we were all on the edge of our seats when Santos went to kick that game winner considering how he started the season.
Oh yeah and there’s nothing quite like watching Philip Rivers cry when things don’t go his way and this game was full of those moments. Never gets old watching him pout like a toddler.
