Week 2: 24-17 Loss at Denver Broncos

Coming off a terrible season opener at Arrowhead, no one was looking forward to a week 2 match up against the annoying Denver Broncos, who were once again favorites to win the AFC West. To make matters worse, this game would be in Denver in front of their annoying fans.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

When Peyton Manning immediately hit Emmanuel Sanders for 48 yards and scored a touchdown just a few plays later, Chiefs fans were already thinking, “Oh no this is going to be ugly”. It didn’t end up being that bad and actually came to the final Chiefs possession to decide if this game was going into overtime or not. Many people were upset that Cairo Santos missed yet another kick, but thinking about it, even had he made it, the Chiefs still would have had to score a touchdown in order to win. A field goal wouldn’t have won or tied it for them.

This game was considered a moral victory for many Kansas City Chiefs fans and gave us some breathing room. Maybe the season wasn’t lost. If Cairo Santos could start kicking a little better (which he did) and the offense could score just a few more points, then maybe this team could be something special.

Aside from losing, other negatives in this game were Eric Berry and Jamaal Charles getting injured early on in the game.

Week 3: 34-15 Win at Miami Dolphins

The Chiefs finally got a win when they were able to blow out the Dolphins in Miami. Jamaal Charles didn’t play in this game, but Knile Davis stepped up nicely in his absence with two touchdowns on the day.

Joe McKnight also came to play in this game with two touchdowns of his own, but ended up tearing his ACL in practice a few days later. It was a season filled with injuries and many thought this would plague the Chiefs later on down the road.

The weird thing about this game was that it was actually a close game until about the fourth quarter when the Chiefs offense started to ignite and take off. Miami finished at 8-8 on the season, but this was still an impressive victory and got the Chiefs on the right track.
