Well, the 2014 season is officially over for the Kansas City Chiefs after the Baltimore Ravens were able to clinch the final playoff spot in the AFC. It’s been an interesting season for the Chiefs and I thought it’d be fun to look back at every game this season. From the horrible opening season loss to the Titans to the exciting victory to keep the Chargers out of the postseason in week 17, the 2014 season is definitely one for the ages.

Week 1: 26-10 Loss VS Tennessee Titans

The first game of the season was a disaster for the Kansas City Chiefs. The Tennessee Titans came to town and everyone figured this was a for sure win for the Chiefs, who had a tough stretch of games to start off with. What ended up happening though was an embarrassing way to start the season and made people think that the 2014 season was already done for.

That’s right. After one game of the season fans had already given up hope on the 2014 season. Those of us who watched the game (I was in attendance unfortunately) understood why fans had such a negative outlook.

Imagine had the Chiefs played the Titans just a few weeks later… Things likely would have been much different.

Alex Smith threw three interceptions and didn’t throw a touchdown pass until the last few minutes of the game. Not only that, but the defense allowed Jake Locker to look like a Hall of Fame quarterback, which we found out later on in the season was not anywhere close to accurate.

Starting the season 0-1 is one thing, but the way the Chiefs were 0-1 is why fans were terrified of what was to come. Derrick Johnson and Mike DeVito went down in this game and were lost for the season, which was awful news for Kansas City. Even worse was what was coming up next. The Chiefs traveled to play the hated rival Denver Broncos in week two and everyone was already thinking 0-2 was in the immediate future.

Oh and this loss is even more embarrassing now that the season is over because the Titans only ended up winning two games and have the second overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Yup, the Chiefs were one of the Titans’ two wins. Yikes.
