The Kansas City Chiefs have struggled in the last few weeks dropping three straight games, but stayed in the playoff hunt by defeating AFC West rival Oakland on Sunday by a score of 31-13. The Chiefs are now 8-6 on the year and 2-3 in the AFC West.
The game started off well for Kansas City when De’Anthony Thomas returned a punt 81 yards late in the first quarter to put the Chiefs ahead 7-0. I’ve been tough on Thomas this year, but the punt return was quite impressive and it was good to see the kid make a big play on special teams.
Cairo Santos later missed a 44 yard field goal that kept the game close until half time. Santos later made a 41 yard field goal, making the score 10-0. The Raiders were able to go down the field with less than a minute left and kick a field goal, making it a 10-3 game at half time.

The third quarter started off badly for the Chiefs when Travis Kelce fumbled the ball (this time it was the right call, cough cough) giving the Raiders a chance to tie things up. Derek Carr barely missed James Jones in the end zone for what would have been the tying touchdown, but Oakland settled for a field goal instead.
That would be the last amount of points the Raiders would get until the last minute of the game, as the Chiefs ended up dominating in the third quarter. The Chiefs had three touchdowns in the third quarter, two from Knile Davis (one rushing, one receiving) and another from Travis Kelce. Those three touchdowns all came within five minutes of each other.
The Raiders looked helpless on offense and it was nice for the Kansas City Chiefs to get some payback on them after losing to them in week 12.
- Dee Ford split a sack in the fourth quarter. Nice to see some fight from him
- Cairo Santos missed two field goals; He hadn’t missed a field goal attempt since week 2 in Denver
- Alex Smith completed his longest pass of the year: a 47 yard strike to Albert Wilson
- Smith was 3 yards shy of Kansas City’s first 300 yard passing game since Matt Cassel was still the starter
- Dustin Colquitt had a memorable play when he looked to pass the ball, but ended up punting and downing it in the 10, the best in the biz, that guy
- Albert Wilson looked incredible
- Chase Daniel saw some action at the end of the game
