Kansas State Wildcats Defeat West Virginia Mountaineers
After a rough loss to TCU two weeks ago, the Kansas State Wildcats bounced back in a defeat over Big 12 opponent West Virginia in Morgantown. The Wildcats won 26-20 in a close game and move to 6-1 in the Big 12 and 8-2 on the season.
The game started off in Kansas State’s favor. Jake Waters hit Demarcus Robinson with a seven yard touchdown pass to go up 7-0 on the Cats’ first possession of the game. The game was 10-3 when Tyler Lockett fumbled the kick return, giving the Mountaineers the ball in K-State territory. Luckily, kicker Josh Lambert missed a 40 yard field goal, letting Lockett off the hook.

Even had Lambert not missed the field goal, Lockett would have been let off the hook anyway. He had a 43 yard punt return near the end of the first half. The Wildcats held a 17-3 lead at half time and had to be feeling pretty good about themselves heading into the locker room.
West Virginia made things interesting though. Quarterback Clint Trickett was struggling to get much going and later suffered a concussion, putting Skyler Howard into the game. Howard threw a seven yard strike to Kevin White to cut the Wildcats’ lead to 10 points in the third quarter. Later, Howard threw a 53 yard bomb to Mario Alford, putting the game at 23-17 and a chance for the Mountaineers to get right back in it.
Each team tacked on another field goal, bringing the final score to 26-20.
After the beat down the Kansas State Wildcats suffered in Fort Worth, this win was vital for their morale. They led the entire game and did a good job getting down the field and putting points on the board.

The run game looked horrendous and that is definitely something K-State needs to work on. The team ended with one total rushing yard on the night. That’s awful, but it didn’t end up affecting them too much in this game. It will in the future though.
Next up for the Wildcats is an in state showdown with the Kansas Jayhawks at Bill Snyder Family Stadium on November 29th. The Jayhawks almost upset TCU last weekend so maybe this game will be closer than we think.
