Kansas City Chiefs Only AFC West Team to Win in Week 9

facebooktwitterreddit

The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off a 24-10 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday and now sit at 5-3 on the year. Sure beating the Jets isn’t anything to jump the gun about, but the Chiefs have now won three games in a row after starting the season 0-2.

The bigger story from Sunday is that the Kansas City Chiefs were the only team in the AFC West to win. That’s a very rare thing for this division, which has grown tougher over the past few years.

The San Diego Chargers were shutout in Miami 37-0 with Philip Rivers throwing three interceptions on the day. The Chargers were 5-1 just a few weeks ago and now have lost three games in a row to drop to 5-4 and have dropped to third place in the AFC West.

The Denver Broncos had a tough task in traveling to Foxborough to take on the New England Patriots. The Pats struggled at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday Night Football, but since then went 4-0. New England took care of the Broncos 43-21 and now hold the best record in the AFC.

The Broncos will more than likely still win the AFC West title, as they have the past few years, but hey…. Any Broncos loss is great, right?

Meanwhile the Oakland Raiders traveled to Seattle to take on the defending champion Seahawks. Surprisingly, the game was close. Not surprising, the Raiders lost and now are 0-8 and the only team in the NFL that haven’t won a game this season.

While Sunday was great for Chiefs fans, things get a little trickier from here. Next weekend the Chiefs will travel to Buffalo to take on those pesky Bills. The Bills have given Kansas City some trouble over the years and actually look decent this year since benching E.J. Manuel and rolling with Kyle Orton at quarterback. Oh yeah and the Bills defense isn’t anything to scoff at either.

Right now, though, Kansas City sits in second place in the division and according to ESPN would be in the first AFC Wildcard spot if the season ended today. In that scenario, the Chiefs would once again travel to Indianapolis and play the Colts. I’d really rather not have to see that mainly so I don’t have to watch “highlights” from last year’s debacle.

Side note: I’m aware that it’s only halfway through the season and right now this doesn’t mean much… Just throwing it out there.

Regardless, these past few weeks have been fun. The Chiefs are playing well and are making people aware that they’re still competitive and ready to make it to the playoffs for the second year in a row.
