Of the players who departed the program early this spring, Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid both could have used another year in the program under Self’s tutelage to polish their game and add strength.
That isn’t the world we live in though, and you cannot hold back talented players like these from pursuing their dreams, since they are doing so within the accepted rules of the game.
Naadir Tharpe seemed to wear out his welcome with the coaching staff and fans alike. It is tough being the starting point guard at the University of Kansas. So much is expected. Tharpe just never seemed up to the task of being the point guard for such a program.
By the end of the season, he did not look comfortable, and the coaching staff seemed to have lost confidence in him. It was better for him to move on.
Andrew White III though, is another case. It never seemed as if he got a fair opportunity to play at Kansas. He often times showed much promise, but that never translated into minutes. No one outside the program really knows why White didn’t see more playing time. He will most certainly have his day in the spotlight, just not at Kansas.
Regardless of who goes, Bill Self is always ready with a new class of highly touted basketball players. Someone is always left out of the rotation who many thought would contribute more. From this list of players, Mykhailiuk is the best bet to miss out on minutes because of his age.
This is certainly not written in stone, but Mykhailiuk will most likely be a bigger contributor down the road than in the upcoming season. If he earns his way into minutes, that will probably be a good sign for this team, because there are talented player with whom he is competing.
This season should be another competitive one in which the Jayhawks will compete for their 11th straight Big 12 Conference regular season title, as well as the national championship. This set of guards is talented enough to get it done.
