Remember when Kansas City Chiefs fans were clamoring to get rid of Alex Smith? Well, now Alex Smith is eventually going to be on his way out with the Chiefs picking up Patrick Mahomes, and Stephen A. Smith pretty much shared the feelings of Kansas City.

As a sports fan, I usually find sport talk shows a hell of a lot more entertaining when Stephen A. Smith shares his opinions. He is dramatic, exciting, and most of the time, exactly right. Currently, I could not agree more with Stephen A. Smith with his latest episode of ESPN’s First Take about the Kansas City Chiefs pick of Patrick Mahomes out of Texas Tech.

Stephen A. Smith is one of the few ESPN sport analysts that can get his opinion across by getting your attention without annoying the heck out of you. I am talking to you, Bill Walton.

Stephen A. Smith puts personality in his discussions and usually comes out as the winning side. This is especially true on the recent discussions First Take had about the quarterback picks of the draft.

"“You’re looking at a guy like Mahomes that will take chances, can fling the football down the field, spread the field, and as a result is the antithesis of Alex Smith.”– Stephen A. Smith, ESPN’s First Take"

Stephen A. Smith says Patrick Mahomes is the antithesis of Alex Smith. Again, I could not agree more. There is reasoning behind the pick that John Dorsey selected. He selected a quarterback that could be a major talent in the NFL, a guy that will not be a game manager, and a player that can win the Super Bowl.

Beyond all of this, Mahomes is raw talent who needs to be developed by Andy Reid. Part of the discussion escalates into talk about Andy Reid getting Deshaun Watson and how great that pick would have been. Time will tell if this is true, but I believe Mahomes is in a perfect situation with the highest ceiling in Kansas City.

Another topic of discussion that comes to the table is about the locker room environment that Alex Smith will create when he knows he will eventually be replaced. This is where Stephen A. Smith expresses opinions that almost duplicate that of Chiefs Kingdom with his response to Will Cain.

More from KC Kingdom

"“Let me speak to Mr. Hypocrit here. We’re suddenly sensitive to the feelings of Alex Smith? Oh my god, I mean, do we need to get Dr. Phil in here?… We have to be concerned about Alex Smith’s feelings? To hell with your feelings! You got paid, to produce, and you haven’t! Because you’re never in the championship picture.”– Stephen A. Smith in response to Will Cain, ESPN’s First Take"

Chiefs fans have always been concerned with Alex Smith’s production in the playoffs and the fact that he is not a playoff worthy quarterback. Now, he is being sent off for not producing and that is how teams win. You can not be concerned with the feelings of Alex Smith. You have to be concerned with the future of your franchise above everything else.

If Alex Smith decides that he wants to coast this next season, he will be replaced. He is still being paid, however, and still makes a case for his run to be extended in Kansas City for at least one more season. No one should be concerned with Alex Smith’s feelings, like Stephen A. Smith said.

One thing is for sure, Alex Smith is definitely needed for the next season to be a consistent starter while Mahomes learns. It is clear Alex Smith will be replaced, but you should not care. Stephen A. Smith sure doesn’t.

What do you think Chiefs fans? Do you agree with Stephen A. Smith? Are you happy with Alex Smith eventually leaving town?
