The Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, and one would think that their season was totally over judging from fans’ reactions. It’s not, of course, as the team sits at 7-3 and still in prime position to make it to the playoffs.

You win some, you lose some. That’s a good motto for KC Chiefs fans to be saying right now because it is a very true statement.

Look, I get it. The Chiefs fell at home to a .500 team in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but it’s not the end of the world or the end of Kansas City’s season. They’re still 7-3 and have a lot of football games left to redeem themselves.

Where the Chiefs can make up some games are within the division, and they’ll have four chances at doing so in the final seven weeks of the season. They’ll square off against Denver twice, Oakland once, and San Diego once.

The games against Denver will both be on Sunday Night Football (assuming the Christmas Day game doesn’t get flexed to that afternoon), the one against Oakland will be at Arrowhead on a Thursday night, and the one in San Diego is the season finale for the regular season.

I don’t expect Kansas City to run the table in the division, though they did go 5-1 in the AFC West last season.

They’ll likely drop at least one or two of these important divisional games, but if they can beat the Broncos at least once and sweep Oakland, then that’d put them in good position for the playoffs.

At the end of the day, though, we can’t sit here and dwell on this loss to the Bucs too much. Was it a bad game? Yes. Was it disappointing? Yes. Was it yet another loss on my birthday? Yes. We’ll make it through though and the Chiefs will have several more opportunities to show that they’re a legitimate postseason contender.

Another reason to be optimistic down the stretch is that the Raiders and Broncos are due to lose as well. Oakland has some tough games coming up (including a trip to Denver, where they’ll surely lose) and the Broncos quarterback situation won’t keep going in their favor forever.

So, calm down, Chiefs Kingdom. Sunday’s loss was bad, but there’s still a lot of football left to be played and the Kansas City Chiefs will hopefully have some key players back after sustaining injuries.

That could be all the difference for this team after all.
