Kansas City Chiefs Have Not Fared Well Against Colts

facebooktwitterreddit

The Kansas City Chiefs hit the road this weekend to square off against the Indianapolis Colts. This is not a team that the Chiefs have fared well against in the last few decades.

Ask any KC Chiefs fan which team they hate the most outside of the AFC West and they’ll likely tell you it’s the Indianapolis Colts.

It’s an easy answer really, as the Colts have manhandled the Chiefs for the better part of the last two decades and they’ve done so in some big moments. Most of those big moments came in playoff games, but there were some regular season heartbreakers as well.

In their last ten regular season games against the Colts, Kansas City has only notched two victories. The last one against Indianapolis came in 2011 without Peyton Manning at the helm and the other was in 2004. That 2004 game was the Halloween showdown between two electric offenses and no defenses.

Obviously the most recent memory that fans have of the Colts is when they shattered our postseason dreams in the 2013 season.

We all know the story.

The Chiefs had a 28-point lead heading into half time. Even with a four possession lead, no one felt safe. This was a team that seemed to be cursed when it came to the playoffs, and we were all waiting for the other shoe to drop.

That shoe did indeed drop, and it dropped fast. Indianapolis completed the second biggest comeback in NFL playoff history and made Chiefs fans truly believe that there was a curse on this franchise.

Now, a little less than three years later, the Kansas City Chiefs will return to the scene of the crime for the first time. That game has to be on their minds, even though it really shouldn’t be, but this time, they should know that the pressure doesn’t have to be as big.

Kansas City finally won a playoff game last year. It came at the expense of the Houston Texans, who laid a goose egg against our Chiefs. The Chiefs went on to win 30-0 and then lost in the next round.

The pain isn’t as bad considering this team has since won a playoff game, but it would mean a lot to me and to Kansas City Chiefs fans if the team could FINALLY trounce the Colts.

Just getting that monkey off the back of the team was huge.

The Chiefs hadn’t won a playoff game before 2016 since the 1993 season when Joe Montana still wore a Chiefs jersey. Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” was number one on the charts. Bill Clinton was the President of the United States. I was three years old.

Okay, you get the point.

Going back to the Indianapolis Colts though, they play a huge part in this Chiefs team’s future. The Colts have booted the Chiefs from the playoffs four times in the last two decades. FOUR TIMES. And all four of those times came in some ridiculous fashion.

In 1995, there was the “Kicker Who Shall Not Be Named” missing three field goal attempts in what ended as a 10-7 loss.

In 2003, Trent Green and company couldn’t keep up with the offensive shootout against Sheriff Manning and the Colts offense and lost 38-31.

In 2006, Manning once again laughed in the faces of Chiefs fans, dominating them to the tune of 23-8.

Then, of course, we have the 2013 debacle, which I can’t even bare to go into detail about again or I might cry.

The pain isn’t as bad considering this team has since won a playoff game, but it would mean a lot to me and to Kansas City Chiefs fans if the team could FINALLY trounce the Colts.

Andrew Luck is 3-0 against the Chiefs (counting the postseason) and I just can’t stand the guy. He’s very talented, but it crushes me how he has the ability to beat my favorite football team.

If the Chiefs are finally going to take down the Colts, this would be the year to do it. Aside from Luck and T.Y. Hilton, the Horse Shoes don’t look all that great this season.

Their defense is a mess. Their offensive line can’t protect Luck to save their lives. Luck has had a “down year”.

This is the time to dominate the Colts. Not only that, but it’s the time to dominate them and NOT let them back into the game.

Could you imagine if the KC Chiefs lost to the Colts in that type of fashion (or at all) again this season? That could really put a damper on the rest of this season, and we all know that this is a team talented enough to make it to the playoffs.

Don’t rain on our parade, Indy. Please. Just give us this one game.
