The Kansas City Royals may have found a good luck bug. A Praying Mantis appeared atop newest Royal, Billy Burns’, head on Saturday night. The bug hasn’t left since.

The Kansas City Royals are undefeated since the bug came for a visit on Saturday. The KC Royals are 2-0 during the stretch. The team sits in fourth place in the American League Central at 53-58.

Kansas City hasn’t won a series in nine attempts before Sundays game against the Blue Jays. The last time the Royals won a series came back in late June against the St.Louis Cardinals. The team is in need of some kind of good luck charm after all the bad luck the team has endured this season.

The defending World Series Champions have dealt with a multitude of injuries and general wear and tear from back-to-back World Series appearances. The expanse of games the last two seasons plus have worn the team down a lot. Even the players and the manager have acknowledged the team is tired.

On July 29th after the Rangers beat the Royals 8-3, Salvador Perez confessed to reporters.

Skipper Ned Yost echoed Perez’s statement as well.

That sounds like a team needing a long physical and mental break. At the time, the lose pushed the Kansas City Royals below .500 by four games. The Royals are five games below now .500, ten games back in the central division and eight games back in the Wild Card standings.

Saturday’s game started off a little shaky. KC Royals ace, Danny Duffy, took the hill to keep his streak of winning alive. Duffy gave up a lead off home run to second baseman, Devon Travis. I thought here we go again, another Royals series loss.

Then in the second inning, the praying mantis appeared. The Kansas City Royals were losing 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth, then the prayers were answered.

Alcides Escobar got a base hit down the third base line driving in Gordon. Two outs later, Eric Hosmer came up huge with a two-run single to right-center field scoring, Escobar and Raul Mondesi, Jr. giving the Royals a 3-2 lead.

Kansas City added another run in the sixth inning when Mondesi tripled in Orlando. The KC Royals won the game 4-2 against the team from the north.

Sunday afternoon the luck kept coming. The praying mantis named “Rally” invited a friend to the game this time. The Kansas City Royals were messing with the bug before the game began.

It looked like Danny Duffy didn’t want anything thing to do with the bug. Oh well, Esky seems to enjoy it.

The Kansas City Royals must have used the mantis as a good luck charm. The team scored seven runs against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon. The Royals smacked two home runs, a solo shot by Escobar and a grand slam by Kendrys Morales. Beating the Jays, 7-1.

Maybe the Royals will keep Rally as a pet and take it with them wherever they go. It wouldn’t hurt. The only thing is remembering to feed it and give it water now and then. It’s worth a shot.

The Royals have three more home games starting Tuesday against the Chicago White Sox. Maybe Rally and its friend will stick around for at least one more series of fun. Like Royals broadcaster, Ryan Lefebvre said, “You never beat fun at the old ballpark.”. You got that right, Ryan.
