KC Chiefs: Andy Reid Cementing His Legacy In Kansas City

facebooktwitterreddit

Andy Reid has only been the head coach of the KC Chiefs since the 2013 season, yet he was able to accomplish something in these last three years that no coach here could do for 22 years.

The Kansas City Chiefs won a playoff game this past weekend, and head coach Andy Reid played a huge part in that.

Now many might try to take away this past weekend’s victory due to it being against a not-so-good Houston Texans squad, but hey… A win’s a win, and for a franchise that hasn’t seen a postseason victory since 1994, this win was huge.

It’s tough to say the Chiefs would have gotten this monkey off their back had they not had Andy Reid as a head coach. Remember when the Chiefs started 1-5 and all hope was lost for the season? Then remember how they rallied and won their last ten games and then won their first postseason victory in two decades?

Yeah, coaching matters, my friends.

Since Reid was hired by the Chiefs in 2013, the team has seen three straight winning seasons and two playoff appearances. Kansas City had not seen three straight winning seasons from their Chiefs since 1995-1997, which just goes to show how important Reid is to this organization.

He’s led the Chiefs to a 48-31 record in just three seasons and did so with limited talent on offense. Remember last season when Alex Smith was throwing the football to guys like Dwayne Bowe, Donnie Avery, Junior Hemingway, and A.J. Jenkins? Yeah, unfortunately, I do too.

The fact that the Chiefs were able to win 18 games in two years with no talented wide receivers says something about Reid’s coaching.

Also, how about the fact that the KC Chiefs started this season with a 1-5 record and are now in the AFC Divisional Round of the playoffs? It would have been easy for this team to have quit and given up once they were in the cellar of the AFC West, but Reid got them to turn their season around. The Chiefs went on to win ten straight games to close out the season and punch their ticket to the playoffs.

Now, with the victory on Saturday, the Kansas City Chiefs have won 11 straight games, and are advancing in the postseason for the first time since the 1993 season.

Say what you will about Andy Reid, but you can’t deny the effect he’s had on this football team. Without Andy Reid, this team wouldn’t be relevant this season. Without Andy Reid, this team likely wouldn’t have posted three straight winning seasons. Without Andy Reid, this team very well could have ended up with the first overall pick this year.

While many were calling for Reid’s job after the poor start, it’s a good thing the Chiefs kept him in Kansas City red. If not, this team could be missing out on one of the best coaches to ever stroll the KC sideline.
