KC Royals: Catcher Salvador Perez Wins World Series MVP

facebooktwitterreddit

The KC Royals are your 2015 World Series champions and catcher Salvador Perez is the World Series Most Valuable Player.

The Kansas City Royals clinched the 2015 World Series Championship with a 7-2 victory over the New York Mets in Game 5. After the game, Royals catcher Salvador Perez was unanimously named the World Series’ Most Valuable Player.

Salvy went 8-for-22 at the plate in the series while scoring three runs himself and driving in two RBIs.

He was also the batter who drove in the Game 5 tying run in the ninth inning, which eventually was the Series-deciding factor, as the Royals won in twelve innings.

Perez was also stellar behind the plate, as he caught the entire series until the bottom of the twelfth inning after teammate Jarrod Dyson came into the game to pinch run for him after he started the inning with a single. Dyson eventually became the go-ahead run, as he gave the Royals a 3-2 lead.

He is now the first catcher to win the MVP since the Toronto Blue Jays’ Pat Borders did it in the 1992 World Series.

He is also just the seventh catcher in MLB history to win the award.

In club history, he is only the second player ever to win the World Series MVP, along with 1985 starting pitcher Bret Saberhagen, who is considered by most to be the best Royals pitcher in team history.

Perez told ESPN:

"“It’s unbelievable. I always say we feel like a family here. We’ve got the same group, almost the same group [from] when I played my first year in 2007 in Arizona, in the Rookie league. It’s amazing to now win a World Series and see the same guys with you. It’s exciting.”"

Royals manager Ned Yost said [about Salvador Perez]:

"“He just had a phenomenal series I think if I had one regret during the whole playoffs, [it] was I had to pinch run for Sal there in that inning. But it opened up the door for us to score five. I really wish that Sal could have been out there to jump in Wade’s arms when we got the final out."

The World Series win becomes just the second in franchise history, and the first major sports Kansas City championship win in 30 years (last was Royals in 1985).

More from KC Kingdom

Kansas City could not be any more excited in celebrating last night’s win, but as the Kansas City Police Department reported this morning, there was not a single arrest in the Kansas City area last night involving the celebration of the Royals’ win.

This is an amazing thing, as it always seems that there is always trouble following major championship wins in other cities.

This includes last year’s World Series champions, the San Francisco Giants, who beat the KC Royals in seven games and had many people in the San Francisco area.

It just goes to show how bad Kansas City needed a championship and it also is a tribute to the kind of fans that the KC Royals have. Congratulations Kansas City, you deserve it.
