Kansas City Chiefs: What Is Going On This Season

facebooktwitterreddit

The Kansas City Chiefs lost on Sunday to the Cincinnati Bengals. It was the third loss in a row for the Chiefs and fans are really starting to wonder what exactly is wrong with this team.

Sure the Chiefs are only 1-3 and their three losses have all come against teams who are currently undefeated. The problem for me isn’t really the three losses. It’s the fact that the Chiefs haven’t been playing good football the past two weeks.

This is a team that was supposed to be a playoff contender in 2015. They were supposed to contend for the AFC West division title this season. This Kansas City Chiefs team has too much talent to be performing as poorly as they have been so far.

We heard so much during the off season about how the defense was supposed to be electric, and they’ve really been anything but. In the past three games, the Chiefs defense has given up 105 points and really only had one good game (week one versus the Texans).

They’ve been disappointing and I feel like the poor performance of the offensive line has taken a lot of heat off of the bad defense. That’s really not cool with me.

The offense hasn’t looked good either, and a lot of that falls on the shoulders of the offensive line. Without protection, Alex Smith doesn’t have time to throw, and it’s frustrating to watch.

With that said though, I am losing my patience with Smith. I’ve always been a supporter of the former number one overall pick since he came to Kansas City, but he hasn’t impressed me this season. If he doesn’t have a good game against the Bears this weekend, it might be time to shake things up at the quarterback position. It pains me to say that too because I want Alex to succeed in Kansas City, I really do.

The Chiefs have to win on Sunday against the Bears if they want any shot at making the playoffs.

The coaching has been terrible too. I expect better from Andy Reid, and right now, Chiefs fans aren’t seeing anything good from him or the rest of the coaching staff. This team has talent, and the coaching staff hasn’t made it look like it at all. It’s been depressing to watch.

Someone that has impressed me so far is kicker Cairo Santos. The second year kicker out of Tulane made seven field goals on Sunday, which ended up being the only amount of points the Chiefs would put on the board that day. It was a nice day for Santos and he’s looked good this season. Let’s hope the rest of the team can join him in the successful category sooner rather than later.

Bottom line: The Chiefs have to win on Sunday against the Bears if they want any shot at making the playoffs. Winning the division is a long shot at this point considering the Broncos are 4-0 and have the advantage over Kansas City since they won the first match up.

Let’s hope the Kansas City Chiefs can turn things around before it’s too late.
