Kansas City Chiefs: Andy Reid Considered Top Ten Coach

facebooktwitterreddit

The Kansas City Chiefs have had two successful seasons under head coach Andy Reid. Elliot Harrison of NFL.com agrees as he ranked Reid right at number ten in his rankings of all 32 NFL head coaches.

Before coming to Kansas City in 2013, Reid spent 14 years as the head coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, where he compiled a 130-93-1 record. After the 2012 season, Reid was fired from the Eagles and was almost immediately scooped up by the Chiefs on a five-year deal.

Reid went on to lead the Chiefs to a 9-0 start in 2013, but then went 2-5 after the bye week and ended 11-5 with a Wildcard berth in the postseason. The Chiefs blew a huge lead in a game that we’d all like to forget about.

The following season did not start off well for Andy Reid and the Chiefs, as he “neglected” to give Jamaal Charles the ball in a blowout loss to the Tennessee Titans the first week of the season. Fans were irritated with Reid not giving one of the best running backs in all of football the ball and relying on Alex Smith to throw downfield all game long.

The rest of the season picked up though, as the Chiefs went on to blowout the New England Patriots at Arrowhead on Monday Night Football and later defeated the Seattle Seahawks in a hard fought battle in mid November.

CAN’T MISS: NOT EVERYONE IS A BELIEVER OF THE CHIEFS

Reid hasn’t been a perfect coach, but he’s the best the Kansas City Chiefs have had for awhile. Here is what Elliot Harrison of NFL.com had to say about putting Andy Reid as the tenth best coach in the National Football League,

"One of the most veteran head coaches on our list, Reid has the skins on the wall to make the top 10. He led the Eagles to four straight NFC title games in the early 2000s and a fifth in 2008 … after Philadelphia had been in all of one championship game since 1960. In his first season in Kansas City, Reid directed the Chiefs to the postseason. They lost their wild-card matchup with the Colts by one point — and lost six players to injury in that game, including star running back Jamaal Charles. Injuries also helped hold Kansas City back in a playoff-less 2014. With the defense healthier and receiver Jeremy Maclin now on board, the Chiefs could win the AFC West in 2015."

The guys ahead of Reid on the rankings were Bill Belichick, Pete Carroll, John Harbaugh, Mike McCarthy, Sean Payton, Mike Tomlin, Bruce Arians, Tom Coughlin, and John Fox.
