KC Chiefs Pro Bowl Players: Tamba Hali

facebooktwitterreddit

Kansas City Chiefs Pro Bowl Linebacker Tamba Hali has been voted to the 5th Pro Bowl of his career, and was drafted by Team Carter, joining teammates Justin Houston, Jamaal Charles, and Dontari Poe.

Team Carter’s Outside Linebacker squad features NFL sack leader Justin Houston who had 22 sacks in 2014, Connor Barwin with 14.5 sacks, and Tamba Hali with six bringing the team total to 42.5 sacks. Team Irvin’s Outside Linebacker squad of Von Miller, Elvis Dumervil, and Clay Matthews finished the 2014 season with 42 sacks combined, giving Team Carter the narrow half sack advantage on Team Irvin.

Tamba Hali was asked about the possibility of having to hit a teammate, similar to Derrick Johnson‘s hit on Jamaal Charles in the 2013 Pro Bowl, and Hali said.

"“I’m pretty sure I (wouldn’t),” Hali said. “I don’t know what was going on with DJ last year, but he probably was just in the moment and having fun, but there’s no reason to hit Jamaal. None. It would bring me no joy to hit a teammate.”Courtesy of Jeffrey Flanagan of Fox Sports"

While Chiefs fans are fortunate to have all of the Chiefs players on one team avoiding any friendly fire scenario, there are a few offensive players from AFC West Division rival’s on Team Irvin that may need to watch out for Hali. Most notably Running Back C.J. Anderson, Emmanuel Sanders of the Denver Broncos, and Fullback Marcel Reece of the Oakland Raiders.

The 2014 season for Tamba Hali was statistically the second worst season of his career, behind only the 2008 season when he finished with only three sacks.

In 2014 Hali finished with 47 tackles, 12 assists, six sacks, and three forced fumbles. Hali failed to manage an interception or a pass deflection all year.

Statistics say that Hali may not deserve to go to the Pro Bowl, but Chiefs fan’s know that if non-called holding penalties were a statistic Hali may lead the league. Hali hasn’t been shy when it comes to the fun he is having at the Pro Bowl, as he has been actively engaging with fans on Twitter.

And later tweeting out a pic of his target recruit.

While the Chiefs are unlikely to manage picking up A.J. Green in the off-season despite Hali’s recruiting attempts, the Chiefs could find a similar player in the draft. My fellow KC Kingdom writer Alec Tilson thinks the Chiefs should draft Dorial Green-Beckham who has been compared to A.J. Green.
