Win Against Bills is Huge for Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have won four games in a row now and currently sit at 6-3 going into week 11. I really can’t express enough how important the win over the Buffalo Bills was on Sunday.

Not only did the Chiefs knock off the Bills, a team that they’ve struggled to play well against in the past, but they also have really thrown their hat into the ring as far as playoff conversations go. The Chiefs started the season 0-2 and a lot of fans had given up on the season being meaningful at all.

Since then, the Kansas City Chiefs have gone 6-1 and have looked decent on both sides of the ball. Sure, the offensive line has looked downright awful and the wide receivers have still yet to record a touchdown, but overall it’s hard to count out the Chiefs when it comes to talking about the postseason.

The offense looked terrible against the Bills in the first half of the game. The Chiefs only had a Cairo Santos field goal going into half time as opposed to the Bills’ 10 points. Once the second half started, the momentum flipped.

Buffalo was on the verge of scoring when running back Bryce Brown fumbled the football and Ron Parker was able to recover for the touchback. The Chiefs didn’t score on that drive, but it was definitely a huge moment in the game.

The Bills went on to get a field goal on their next drive, probably thinking that they had this one in the bag. The Kansas City Chiefs weren’t done on the day though.

On a fourth and one on the Buffalo 39, the Chiefs decided to go for it. Alex Smith did a shovel pass to Jamaal Charles that actually looked like he might fumble it at first. Charles took the ball and not only got the first down, but ran all the way into the end zone for a touchdown to put the Chiefs within three points.

While that play obviously was HUGE, I think the turning point was on the Bills’ next possession when they were going for it on a fourth and one. The Bills were trying to draw Kansas City off sides, but it backfired on them and they ended up getting a penalty and decided to punt.

From then on, it was the Chiefs’ game to lose. They proved that when they punted the ball away, but then were able to recover a muffed punt by Leodis McKelvin. After that, Jamaal had a big run and then Alex Smith ran the football in for the score to take the first lead of the day.

It was the only lead that mattered, as it ended up being the game’s final score. Kansas City left with not only a win, but knowing that they can come back in a game and pull out a victory.

It was a huge team win and really has me dreaming big for this 2014 Kansas City Chiefs team.
