Years ago, trading away a talent such as Tyreek Hill looked like a fatal mistake by the Kansas City Chiefs. But they proved everybody wrong, ultimately winning consecutive Super Bowls and reaching another, as general manager Brett Veach was just at the time and made the right call.
Nevertheless, it also felt like the team needed a difference-making playmaker like him. Hill flirted with 2,000 receiving yards in a single season in Miami, all while the Chiefs relied on a group of lesser pass catchers.
Hill has flirted with a return to Missouri multiple times since the trade, including this past weekend. However, as much as the team clearly needs another wide receiver, they can't afford to bring him back at this point in his career.
The Chiefs must ignore Tyreek Hill's latest plea to return home
Hill went viral on social media for writing, “KC, I missed you!!! See you soon.” He signed some autographs at a fan event at Rusty Drewing Toyota in Jefferson City, MO, and it didn't take long before he raised some eyebrows.
Tyreek Hill still loves #ChiefsKingdom & we never stopped loving him back, no matter how it ended! A reunion would be chaos in the best way. Realistic? Probably not but never say never!🔥🙌

Would you welcome him back home?🤔

However, this comes on the heels of his agent admitting that he's still not back to full strength after suffering a major knee injury last season. It doesn't sound like there's a timetable for his return, so why should the Chiefs sign him now?
Hill used to be one of the most explosive and dangerous offensive weapons in the game, but Father Time is ruthless. He's coming off a down year, and suffering such a major injury can be career-threatening for a guy who made a living thanks to his speed, craftiness, and acceleration.
Hill has never been the biggest or most physical guy. His game might not be nearly as efficient if he can't leave defenders in the dust, as well as his recent struggles with drops. Add his off-the-field questions to the mix, and that's the last thing the Chiefs need right now.
The Chiefs already have more than enough on their plate with Rashee Rice. Of course, that doesn't mean they shouldn't be looking for another wide receiver -- Rice's situation is precisely the reason why they should. As for Hill, that ship has sailed.
Patrick Mahomes needs more help, and the front office's reluctance to acknowledge that might come back to haunt them. They could've and should've added at least one wide receiver in the first or second round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
This season had the makings of a reunion, with Travis Kelce riding into the sunset with one final Super Bowl run and Eric Bieniemy returning home. It seemed that Hill could've also been a part of it, and it would've been nice under the right circumstances. Still, teams don't win Super Bowls out of nostalgia and emotional moves, and it's time to shut the door on this narrative once and for all.
