Tyreek Hill Lands With AFC Bottomfeeder in Latest Offseason Prediction
As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for yet another AFC Championship Game, it's always fun to check in to see what the franchise's former players are up to.
One ex-Chief who's already making offseason headlines is none other than Tyreek Hill. Following the Miami Dolphins' Week 18 loss to the New York Jets, the veteran wideout made it clear that he doesn't want to return to South Beach for the 2025 campaign.
"It was great playing (in Miami), but at the end of the day, bro, I got to do what's best for my career, Hill said, "I'm too much of a competitor to be just out there."
Now that Hill-related trade rumors are beginning to heat up, one NFL analyst predicts the former Kansas City wideout to make his way to a divisional rival in the coming months.
Chiefs Rumors: NFL Insider Projects Tyreek Hill-Patriots Offseason Trade
ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler recently spoke with league executives and scouts about potential offseason moves. One NFC front-office member told Fowler that he wouldn't be surprised if the Dolphins traded Hill to the New England Patriots in an offseason blockbuster.
"The Patriots are desperate. They need a guy, that alpha that can be friendly for Drake Maye," the source said. "There's a higher chance of the draft picks (Miami would receive in a trade) being higher than with a contender."
Fowler adds there's a chance "a package including a Day 2 pick would get a trade done."
As it stands, the Patriots will head into the 2025 NFL draft with nine selections, including three in the first two rounds (No. 38, 69, and 77). They also have all of their second- and third-round picks for the next four drafts, giving them more than enough ammunition to lure the Dolphins into a deal.
Upgrading the WR room is one of the Patriots' biggest needs this offseason. They just averaged a league-low 176.2 passing yards per game in a season where Demario Douglas (621) and Kayshon Boutte (589) were their only wideouts who hit the 500-yard mark.
It isn't hard to see why Hill would be a major upgrade over the Patriots' current WR situation. Although his 2024 performance left much to be desired, the eight-time Pro Bowl playmaker still would've ranked first among New England wideouts when it came to receptions (81), receiving yards (959), and touchdowns (6).
Even if he's begun slowing down, Hill in his current form could help bring out the best in Maye. The Patriots' franchise QB displayed a lot of promise throughout his rookie campaign, however, he likely could've reached greater heights with a legitimate game-changing weapon at his disposal.
Hill, 30, is still due about $80.4 million across the next two seasons, per Spotrac. If they're interested, that won't be an issue for the Patriots, who have approximately $125.7 million to spend — by far, the most in the NFL.
For now, Chiefs fans will continue to monitor Hill's situation as the NFL offseason continues. The Dolphins will save about $15.5 million more if they wait to trade him until after
