The Kansas City Chiefs' receiver room has been a point of news and speculation throughout Week 1 due to the suspension of Rashee Rice. This only ramped up when Xavier Worthy was lost in the game's first series and Kansas City was forced to test its depth early on. It didn't help matters either that rookie Jalen Royals was dealing with an injury that halted his potential debut. It is a struggle that a certain former Chiefs' defender took note of.

Tyrann Mathieu commented on X with a simple "RASHEE RICE IS MISSED." The former Chief defender commented in all caps, making sure his sense of urgency wasn't missed. For Mathieu, it is noteworthy that the former Chief is paying attention to his team after departing in free agency to the New Orleans Saints. Rather than continue to play for the struggling franchise, the defender opted to walk away.

Former Chiefs Star Is Unimpressed with Kansas City's Current Options at Receiver

With the early struggles in the Kansas City secondary, it is fair to wonder if the veteran could be talked into a return. He could unquestionably be used in the team's current rotation. The one issue here is the fact that it would be a sticky situation based on the retirement coming with the Saints. However, New Orleans has moved on to other options.

This opens the door to a potential deal that could help solve two issues in one for Kansas City. However, Mathieu's opinion remains valid that the Chiefs have very limited options. Hollywood Brown became Mahomes' primary target in what was a frustrating performance. Nothing was easy for the Kansas City offense.

Even with Travis Kelce able to turn back the clock and make a big play, there simply wasn't enough consistency. Brown was often a checkdown target, making one huge play late in the game to bring the Chiefs within a score. It wouldn't be a surprise to see the Chiefs make a move and look to bring in a veteran with higher upside.

Fans are going to be quick to point to Tyreek Hill, imagining what this offense might be with Hill, Rice, and Worthy all together in the lineup. It would be an unstoppable force that would easily push the Chiefs back into another Super Bowl. However, it is a long shot based on the contract situation, and Miami still has reason to hold onto its best receiver.

Still, there is reason to expect a move in the coming days. It isn't just Mathieu who is underwhelmed with the team's current lineup. Leaving room to wonder what direction the Chiefs are going to choose to go in the coming days.
