Entering the Super Bowl last Sunday, one of the biggest storylines besides a potential three-peat was the possibility that star tight end Travis Kelce could retire after the game. Speculation about Kelce's retirement stemmed from his age, a decline in play this season, and a chance to go out on top.
Obviously, the Super Bowl didn't go as Kansas City planned, losing 40-22 to the Philadelphia Eagles. That said, following the game, Kelce's future still remained up in the air.
On the newest episode of the New Heights Podcast with his broth Jason, Travis shared his first comments on his future after the loss. Travis said, "I’m gonna take some time to figure it out. And I think I owe it to my teammates that if I do come back that it’s gonna be a wholehearted decision and I’m not half-assing it, and I’m fully here for them"

Travis Kelce Still Contemplating Retirement
Kelce carefully considering what his next move will be is to be expected. Sure, he could have retired no matter the outcome of the Super Bowl, but Kelce is ultra-competitive, meaning the loss stung even more. As a result, Kelce most likely feels like he didn't leave it all out on the field, which could drive him to come back.
However, if Kelce doesn't retire, Kansas City will need to work out his contract situation. Currently, Kelce is scheduled to make $19 million next season. Based on his performance this year, paying Kelce that much to stay would be illogical even for a legend.
This leaves the Chiefs with two options: 1. cut Kelce or 2. extend Kelce and restructure his contract. If Kelce decides to keep playing, Kansas City would likely go with option two, given Patrick Mahomes made it clear he wants Kelce back.
Nevertheless, Kelce must make a decision on his future in the next few weeks. No matter what he decides, Chiefs Kingdom will always have love for the star tight end.
