The Kansas City Chiefs' season is over before Christmas for the first time since 2014. The attention on the team will be focused on reshuffling the roster, but changes could also come to the coaching staff.

Several teams will be looking for head coaches, and offensive coordinator Matt Nagy continues to be a name that is being floated around. The Athletic's Dianna Russini released an article discussing what she's hearing around the league and revealed that Nagy is a serious candidate for the Tennessee Titans' head coaching opening.

"Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is viewed internally as a serious candidate. Nagy will be in Nashville on Sunday with Kansas City, but NFL rules state there can’t be any job discussions," Russini wrote.

Matt Nagy Is Serious Candidate for Titans HC Coaching Opening

There's a connection between the Titans and Chiefs, as Tennessee's GM is Mike Borgonzi. He was in KC from 2009-2024, holding several different positions, including assistant GM. That's where the two men crossed paths and likely plays a role in why the Titans have interest in him.

And while the Titans have made it known they like Nagy, if they do, in fact, poach him from the Chiefs, it'll be addition by subtraction for this team.

Since Nagy returned to the Chiefs in 2023, the offense has taken a step back. They used to be known for being a dynamic unit, but they have looked stale and boring with Nagy as the offensive coordinator. They have been middle of the pack in terms of scoring for the last three seasons with Nagy, which is underwhelming considering the talent they've had on this team.

While these numbers aren't at the bottom of the league, watching the offense every week constantly left fans asking for more. Even though Andy Reid is the one calling the plays, Nagy is responsible for the offensive game planning. It has lacked creativity and asked Patrick Mahomes to save this team time and time again.

Chiefs fans have been clamoring for the team to move on from Nagy and find another offensive voice for the room. And while they haven't done that, if he's seriously a contender to get the Titans' job, Kansas City supporters would likely be ecstatic to have him go elsewhere and be their problem.

It's still early in the process for the Titans' search, but the fact that his name has been linked to the job for months shows there's real interest. And if they decided to bring him on, they'll be doing Kansas City a massive favor and force them to make changes on the offensive side of the ball. Even though Nagy isn't signed for the 2026 season, not having to negotiate a new deal with him would be huge.
