The Kansas City Chiefs clearly need to add more playmakers if they hope to write a different ending than the 2024 season. Kansas City's struggles are deeper than simply missing star receiver Rashee Rice, especially with the backfield only averaging 108.0 rushing yards per game (17th). Xavier Worthy's injury could also leave the Chiefs open to adding another wideout.
With that in mind, the Chiefs might already be eyeing teams that could be sellers at this year's NFL trade deadline. One of those teams could be the winless Tennessee Titans, who have a few playmakers Kansas City should be interested in.
Chiefs GM Brett Veach Must Keep an Eye on Titans as Perfect Trade Targets Emerge
Titans head coach Brian Callahan has given up play-calling duties, highlighting the drama going on in Tennessee. Now that the Titans traded cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. to the New York Jets on Tuesday, it's clear that they're trending towards fire-sale territory.
While No. 1 running back Isiah Pacheco showed signs of life in Week 3, the ground production still isn't meeting expectations. That's why the Chiefs should be interested in Titans RB Tony Pollard. The former Memphis Tiger has amassed three consecutive 1,000-yard campaigns and is on pace for another, averaging 65.7 rushing yards per game to begin the season.
With Pollard also being a viable receiving back (220 catches for 1,600 yards and five touchdowns), he's the perfect piece who'd add another layer to Kansas City's backfield.
Titans WR Calvin Ridley is another player the Chiefs could use. While it would take cap gymnastics to make a trade work ($28 million cap hit), Ridley would take the passing game to the next level. He has 148 catches for 2,144 receiving yards and 12 TDs since being reinstated following his gambling policy violation.
The Titans might want to hold onto Pollard and Ridley, but they might be too tempted by the draft picks the Chiefs could offer. A rebuilding team like Tennessee needs all the help it can get to return to playoff contention.
Whether it is Ridley, Pollard, or both, the Chiefs have every reason to attempt to take advantage of the Titans' dysfunction, looking to add to a roster that needs help even after Rice returns sooner rather than later.
