The Kansas City Chiefs can't afford any distractions right now. That's why the New York Giants' decision to part ways with head coach Brian Daboll couldn't have happened at a worse possible time for the defending AFC champs.

Unsurprisingly, it didn't take long before Steve Spagnuolo's name was thrown around as a potential replacement in the Big Apple. However, as reported by Sports Radio 810, the Chiefs' defensive coordinator doesn't want to hear anything about that right now.

Steve Spagnuolo Won't Talk About The Giants' Job

"Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo’s response when asked about the Giants HC job: 'Yeah, we’re good, we’re playing Denver,'” per the report.

Still, that's hardly going to do much to silence the rumors. He has obvious ties to the organization, given his past with the Giants. Considering that, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport named him as one of the guys to keep an eye on:

"Among the names I would keep an eye on as the Giants, let's say, potentially look to, kind of regain some of the greatness of the Tom Coughlin era, I would say Steve Spagnuolo and Antonio Pierce to it as coach candidates, both guys they will look at. Lou Anarumo also has ties to the Giants organization," Rapoport said on NFL GameDay.

Of course, it's hard to argue that Spagnuolo has earned another chance to be the main guy. While his tenure with the St. Louis Rams didn't end on a high note, Spagnuolo paid his dues and earned his stripes as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, defensive coordinators in NFL history.

Losing him would be a massive blow to this organization. Andy Reid's team has rallied behind Spagnuolo's elite defense multiple times in the playoffs. And with the offense regressing since Eric Bieniemy left, he might be the main reason why this team was able to stay at the top.

The Giants' head coaching position will be one of the most coveted in the offseason. Coach Reid will never be the one to stand in the way of one of his assistant coaches getting a taste of what it's like to be the boss. And after everything Spagnuolo has done for the team, he's earned that opportunity.

That being said, the Chiefs are 5-4 and coming out of the bye week with a tough road matchup with a divisional rival. So, even though the story won't go away any time soon, Spagnuolo is right; he has a game to prepare for.
