The Kansas City Chiefs could be one of the active teams in the days leading up to the Nov. 4 trade deadline. The main priority for the Chiefs is to address their defensive line, as they could use another pass rusher and an interior defensive lineman with the loss of rookie Omarr Norman-Lott.
In addition to the defensive line, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler threw out last week that the Chiefs’ CB room could be worth watching ahead of the deadline, highlighting Kristian Fulton, who has been a free agent bust, and Joshua Williams.
However, even if Kansas City were to move one or both of those guys by the trade deadline, they could still use another option at the CB spot. On Monday, they saw one of those options drop off the board.
Titans CB Roger McCreary Gets Sent to Los Angeles Rams at End of Week 8
According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Tennessee Titans CB Roger McCreary is being traded to the Los Angeles Rams. Tennessee will be getting a fifth-round pick in exchange for McCreary, while the Rams will also pick up a sixth-round selection.
It’s not shocking to see McCreary on the move, as he’s been mentioned as a possible trade candidate over the last few weeks. Kansas City wasn’t reported as a destination for McCreary. But he would’ve been an upgrade over Fulton and a nice option to join Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson, and rookie Nohl Williams in the cornerback room.
Heading into Week 8, the 25-year-old cornerback had given up his fair share of completions (23) on 28 targets for an average of 10.5 yards per reception allowed. He also possessed a relatively high 111.6 passer rating.
That said, McCreary’s age plus upside is more appealing than what you are getting out of Fulton and Joshua Williams to that lesser extent.
After signing a two-year, $20 million deal in free agency, the veteran cornerback has been riding the bench for most of the season. Fulton played in Kansas City’s first two games, but only saw 17 defensive snaps for those keeping count at home.
With there being a lot of intrigue in the CB market leading up to the deadline, one would believe the Chiefs could move on from Fulton. But with his contract and lack of playing time, it's hard to see a contending team taking a flier on the Chiefs’ CB.
For all of that, teams will take their chances on Seattle Seahawks CB Riq Woolen or New York Jets CB Michael Carter II, both players who have seen their names come up in trade chatter.
