Update From Chiefs-JK Dobbins Meeting Emerges
By Joe Summers
The Chiefs have had a busy 24 hours, signing Carson Wentz to potentially serve as Patrick Mahomes' backup while retaining Cyde Edwards-Helaire on a one-year deal.
Amidst the frequent news, Kansas City also visited with former Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins, who coincidentally was drafted in the same class as Edwards-Helaire.
It was thought early on Tuesday that the Chiefs would sign Dobbins before they landed on Edwards-Helaire, though the latter signing doesn't rule out an additional acquisition for the two-time defending Super Bowl champions.
Chiefs Get Positive Update From J.K. Dobbins Meeting
We can draw a couple of things from this news.
First, there is no imminent deal coming between the Chiefs and Dobbins. He'll likely take more visits, and Kansas City's immediate re-signing of Edwards-Helaire signals they probably don't have a major role in mind for Dobbins as he works his way back from injury.
Second, the report that it was a productive meeting and a contract could come later this offseason means the door is not closed on a potential deal. Dobbins could wind up a Chief, giving Kansas City three quality running backs they can depend on.
I'm hopeful for that outcome, especially considering Dobbins averages 5.8 yards per carry for his career.
The Chiefs are all-in on a three-peat and these recent moves prove exactly that. Kansas City currently leads the field with +350 odds to win the AFC, though I'd argue those odds are a steal given how successful the offseason has been.
