Travis Kelce Takes Firm Stance on Harrison Butker Controversy
By Joe Summers
Travis Kelce has officially commented on Chiefs' kicker Harrison Butker's controversial commencement speech at Benedictine University.
Butker is under fire for his comments about women and an antiquated idea of family structure, and the Kelce brothers didn't pass up on an opportunity to speak their minds.
Appearing on the New Heights podcast with his brother Jason, Travis avoided any controversy though left little doubt about where he stands.
Travis Kelce Comments on Harrison Butker's Speech
Kelce made it clear that he's appreciative of Butker as a teammate but doesn't ultimately agree with his political views.
Chris Jones recently supported Butker, who is one of the best kickers in the NFL, though Kelce was intentional about distancing himself from Butker's comments. "I can't say I agree with the majority of it or just about any of it" tells the story, and it's humorous that Butker used a Taylor Swift quote while defending his bizarre stance.
Butker's contributions to the team on the field are obvious. He's come up clutch in numerous occassions, though it seems like his teammates would prefer his political views stay private. I don't blame them.
All that ultimately matters is whether or not Butker makes his kicks. He's garnered significant attention for reasons that have nothing to do with his on-field play, but he'll remain the Chiefs' kicker as long as he can hit his field goals.
It's clear Butker's political views are from a regressive era and aren't shared by the leaders in the Chiefs' locker room. They're his views to hold, though at least Kelce is on the right side of history.
