Travis Kelce Makes First Comments on New Chiefs Contract
By Joe Summers
Travis Kelce cemented his place as a Chief for life by signing a two-year contract extension on Monday, making him the highest-paid tight end in the NFL as Kansas City tries to win a third consecutive Super Bowl.
Patrick Mahomes was quick to congratulate his teammate and friend on social media, though we've now got the first reaction from Kelce as well.
See what Kelce had to say about his new deal below.
WATCH: Travis Kelce Reacts to Contract Extension
You can almost see tears in his eyes as the greatest tight end of all-time remembers stepping into the Chiefs' facility for the first time 12 years ago. It's important to note that his reworked contract is not a pure extension, but rather a raise for the next two years.
Barring new developments, the writing on the wall is that Kelce will retire after the next two seasons. I don't have any reporting to certify that, but it seems to be the most likely scenario given his age and ability to build a brand off the field.
If these are the last two years that we'll get to watch Travis, I'm going to soak up and enjoy every single second. He's the bridge from struggling Chiefs' teams of old to the new dynastic mega-franchise, and I'll always remember him as one of the best athletes I've ever seen.
For now, we celebrate the exciting news. Chiefs Kingdom can enjoy the 2024-25 season without worrying about a potential retirement and that's a win in and of itself.
