Chiefs RB Deneric Prince is enjoying an excellent period of summer workouts and early training camp with the team, rising up the depth chart in similar fashion to his ultimately unfounded hype last year.

However, this season looks to be different for the second-year running back. Jerick McKinnon is no longer on the roster, leaving a hole in the running back room. Isiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helaire's jobs are secure, though Prince is emerging as a threat to steal snaps from the latter.

It's early in camp, though Prince has been the second back in the rotation thus far.

Chiefs News: RB Deneric Prince Getting Second-Team Reps Over Clyde Edwards-Helaire

Considered someone fighting for his job entering camp, Prince has delivered encouraging results thus far. Kansas City's backfield is murky, so much so that Kadarius Toney is getting reps, so Prince has an opportunity to snag an important role.

Prince had 1,728 career rushing yards and 14 TDs at Tulsa, illustrating the kind of skillset that seems to fit the Chiefs' offense.

This isn't the first time Prince's name has been floated within Chiefs Kingdom, and he spent last year on the practice squad while Kansas City won its second straight Super Bowl.

The major question is whether or not he can hold up in pass protection, though he seemingly has an advantage over his competition. Louis Rees-Zammit may be Prince's biggest competition at the position right now, but we'll see exactly how the rotations look once pads get put on.

At this moment, it looks like Prince is making the team as the third running back. If he remains ahead of Edwards-Helaire in the rotation, that possibility will only keep looking more likely.
