The Kansas City Chiefs have unofficially started training camp on Tuesday at Missouri Western State University. Rookies and quarterbacks arrived for three days of practice before veterans report to camp on Friday.

Head coach Andy Reid took the opportunity to speak to the media as the rookies and QBs arrived. One of the most important updates Reid provided was the status of several key players.

According to senior team reporter Matt McMullen, five players are expected to start camp on the sidelines, including BJ Thompson, who's set to hit the non-football injury list. Jaylen Watson, Charles Omenihu, Joe Thuney, and Derrick Nnadi are other players who will likely be on the PUP list to begin training camp.

Chiefs News: Five Players Expected on Injury List to Start Training Camp

Thompson, who was the Chiefs' fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, had suffered a seizure and cardiac arrest during a team meeting in June. He is expected to make a full recovery and Reid added that he was doing great.

Thuney had suffered a pectoral injury in the divisional round against the Buffalo Bills that kept him sidelined for the rest of the postseason. He is expected to be available for the beginning of the season.

Nnadi re-signed with the Chiefs in the offseason to come back for his seventh season with the team. He was placed on the injury list following a tricep injury in the Wild Card round game against the Miami Dolphins.

Jaylen Watson had revealed that he had played the 2023 season on a torn labrum but played through it. He went through surgery in March 2024.

Chiefs defensive lineman Charles Omenihu also underwent surgery in the offseason. The standout pass rusher had suffered a torn ACL in the AFC Championship Game against the Ravens and missed the Super Bowl.

Hopefully, the Chiefs go through the training camp without any further injuries. Barring other major injuries, Kansas City will start the NFL season as the favorite to win the Super Bowl. On FanDuel Sportsbook, the Chiefs have the best odds to win it all at +600.
