The Royals are off to an exhilarating start to the 2024 MLB season with an 11-6 record and the best run differential in MLB (+39) as of this writing. This team is no fluke, and the rest of the baseball world is beginning to take notice.

MLB.com publishes weekly power rankings and no club has surged more since the start of the season than your Kansas City Royals. In the middle of a series with the lowly Chicago White Sox, there's an opportunity to move even higher with a strong week.

In the latest power rankings, the Royals jumped a whopping 12 spots to move into sixth place in the whole league!

Royals Surge to Sixth in Latest MLB Power Rankings

Will Leitch of MLB.com writes, "The good vibes in Kansas City to start the year are undeniable, but if things take a turn -- as you might expect from a team that lost 106 games last year, no matter what they did in the offseason -- you can probably point to Sunday as the moment when the wave crested. Cole Ragans threw six terrific innings, but the Mets scratched out two runs in the eighth, which were enough to clinch the series."

He makes a good point, though after last year's disastrous pitching staff, seeing Ragans dominate as an ace is a great sign.

"It’s not yet known the extent of Salvador Perez’s injury, but all that happiness from Salvy’s 250th homer and the Royals being in first place halted rather quickly," Leitch continues. "Let’s see if this is Kansas City's high-water mark in the Power Rankings this year."

I was terrified about Salvy's injury as well, though the beloved slugger took to social media on Monday to calm everyone's nerves. Perez might even be in the lineup on Tuesday against the White Sox, so initial concerns of a long-term injury luckily did not come to fruition.

No matter what happens the rest of the season, this Royals team has the foundation of a competitive club and should stay in the mix for the remainder of the summer. I don't remember the last time Kansas City was this high on a power rankings list. Hopefully, the Royals will stick in the top 10 for months to come.
