The Royals should be busy this offseason with a lot of work to do to field a competitive ball club in 2024, and J.J. Picollo needs to get on the phone right now to acquire one newly available starting pitcher.

Kansas City's rotation needs to improve and the Cleveland Guardians may have just given the Royals a perfect opportunity to get better.

Here's the latest:

Perfect Royals Free Agency Target Now Available From Division Rival

Cal Quantrill was designated for assignment yesterday after spending over three years with the Cleveland Guardians. He struggled through injuries last year but represents the exact kind of investment the Royals need to make this offseason.

J.J. Picollo must find diamonds in the rough, like he seemingly did with Cole Ragans. Quantrill has shown enough promise and reliability that he needs to be at the top of Picollo's priority list.

Quantrill went 15-5 in 2022, compiling a 3.38 ERA in 186.1 innings. That followed up a stellar 2021 in which Quantrill recorded a sparkling 2.89 ERA in 149.2 innings with an 8-3 record. Sounds good!

While he's not a big strikeout pitcher, Quantrill could utilize Kansas City's strong defense and would certainly be a welcome addition to the pitching staff.

These are the moves we need to make. Here's hoping Picollo is already two steps ahead of me.
