Royals Insider Reveals Likelihood of Bobby Witt Jr. Extension

The Royals have had a busy, important offseason, signing several impact players and looking like a roster ready to compete for an AL Central crown as soon as next season.

Of course, the underlying storyline is trying to convince Bobby Witt Jr. to sign a long-term extension to stay in Kansas City. He's publicly declared that he wants to and now one Royals insider believes it's a distinct possibility.

In fact, Joel Goldberg now thinks it's more likely than not that Witt Jr. stays.

Goldberg, a television broadcaster for Kansas City, noted that while he can't make any guarantees, a Witt Jr. extension is very much on the table.

"There's optimism on both sides," said Goldberg. "I don't know if I've seen a kid work as hard as Bobby Witt Jr. before the game every single day."

Witt Jr. made massive improvements, especially defensively, in large part due to that work ethic. While Goldberg notes he doesn't expect a mammoth, 10+ year extension, he does think some sort of deal will be reached.

"He likes it in Kansas City...it's a perfect fit," continued Goldberg. "It would more surprise me if something did not happen long-term than if it did."
