The NFL announced Tuesday that veteran official Shawn Hochuli will serve as the head referee in Chiefs vs. Bills on Sunday night in the Divisional Round. This is a great break for Chiefs fans, as Hochuli is well-respected around the league with nearly a decade of experience.

After a regular season filled with disastrous, costly mistakes from terrible officiating, Kansas City got lucky. In fact, recent trends indicate the Chiefs have a big advantage thanks to Hochuli and his crew.

Chiefs News: Shawn Hochuli Tabbed as Lead Referee in Chiefs vs. Bills

Hochuli, the son of legendary official Ed Hochuli, has been with the NFL since 2014. He became a lead referee in 2018 and the Chiefs have experienced success when he's called their games.

Kansas City is 8-2 in 10 games with Hochuli, including 2-0 in the playoffs. Buffalo, on the other hand, is 1-3.

Chiefs fans could reasonably be worried about who would be assigned to the game after the tough whistle the team has gotten this year. Hochuli has his flaws, but there doesn't seem to be any negative bias here.

In Patrick Mahomes first road playoff game as the Chiefs seek a second consecutive Super Bowl, we want as fair a game as possible. Here's hoping we get it, and all signs point towards a thrilling contest.
