Ranking the Chiefs' 8 Worst Draft Picks of the Last Decade
3. DE Joshua Kaindoh — 2021 Round 4, Pick 144
After having PFF's 11th-worst pass rush in 2019, the Chiefs used the 2021 NFL Draft's 144th overall pick to bring in Joshua Kaindoh out of Florida State. It was seen as a high-risk, high-reward pick. Kaindoh had all the tools to be a physical beast (6-foot-6, 260 pounds) but an injury-filled collegiate career raised some concerns.
Well, it turns out those concerns were well-warranted. An ankle injury limited Kaindoh to only three games played as a rookie, resulting in just one QB hurry across 46 defensive snaps. He proceeded to spend the entire 2022 campaign on the practice squad before being waived by Kansas City last August.
While Day 3 picks don't always develop properly, only getting three games out of a fourth-round pick is enough to make your stomach churn. It hurts even more when you consider that the majority of players taken after Kaindoh went on to play more games than him.
Looking back, the Chiefs likely should've taken Kaindoh's injury concerns more seriously. While gambling on a high-risk, high-reward player can produce results, this is an example of the opposite end of the spectrum.
