Raiders New Head Coach is Already Dealing With a Major Lawsuit
By Joe Summers
The Raiders want to focus on training camp beginning next month, though new head coach Antonio Pierce is now dealing with a major lawsuit.
Jocelyn Pierce, Antonio's wife, filed for bankruptcy after Antonio invested in car dealerships that defaulted on their loans, per the report. Pierce is beloved in the locker room and is the subject of some wildly optimistic quotes but he now faces this off-field issue.
Antonio Pierce was named as the guarantor of more than $28 million worth of judgments according to the filing.
Raiders HC Antonio Pierce Dealing With Bankruptcy Filing
According to Jason Morrin, a sports law reporter, Mrs. Pierce filed for bankruptcy on June 12, claiming she did not sign any personal guaranty on the loans.
Lenders are seeking to satisfy the remaining judgments from marital assets between the Pierces. Two lenders, Nissan Motor Acceptance Company and Hyundai Capital America, reportedly recently attempted to garnish Antonio Pierce's wages.
Mrs. Pierce requested an extension in her filing, citing ""The Debtor was forced to file quickly and with little preparation to protect her assets and those of the marital community from Mr. Pierce’s judgment creditors."
Antonio Pierce became the head coach of the Raiders after a successful interim stint, even pulling off an upset victory over the Chiefs late in the season. Las Vegas hopes Pierce can return the team to contention and even the playoffs, though the roster needs upgrades across the board.
For now, he'll face these legal issues while simultaneously preparing for a grueling NFL season.
