Potential Chiefs Free Agent WR Target Signs With AFC Rival
By Joe Summers
One potential free-agent wide receiver option for the Chiefs is off the market, as Odell Beckham Jr. agreed to terms with the Miami Dolphins on a one-year deal.
Kansas City might be in the market for a receiver given the uncertainty surrounding Rashee Rice's situation and had been tied to Beckham in the past. Nonetheless, he'll now join a crowded group in Miami with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
This doesn't rank as an overpay like DJ Chark to the Chargers or a desperate move like the Bills' signing of Chase Claypool in my opinion, though I understand why the Chiefs didn't make a similar offer.
WR Odell Beckham Jr. Reportedly Signs With Dolphins
Beckham caught just 35 of 64 targets in 2023 for 565 yards and three TDs in 14 games, but he looked effective when given the opportunity. Given Hill and Waddle's respective injury histories, this was a wise move by the Dolphins.
The former Giants star has his own struggles staying healthy, though he won't be asked to fill a large role in Miami. This doesn't turn the Dolphins into true contenders until they prove Tua Tagovailoa can be an effective quarterback in the cold, but it's a step in the right direction.
Few wide receivers remain on the wide receiver market. Guys like Tyler Boyd or Zay Jones could be an option and Mecole Hardman is still without a team. If Rice does get a lengthy suspension, I'd be stunned if Kansas City didn't sign a veteran wideout to help fill the void.
We'll see what happens moving forward and update you on any developments, but the market will only get smaller as more time goes by.
