The Chiefs received excellent news today with injury updates for two pivotal players as they prepare for Tyreek Hill and the Miami Dolphins in Week 9 in Germany.

After Willie Gay Jr. and Jerick McKinnon both missed practice yesterday, causing justifiable concern across Chiefs Kingdom, each veteran took positive steps today in hopes of playing on Sunday.

Chiefs Get Excellent Injury Updates on Willie Gay Jr. and Jerick McKinnon

With Nick Bolton on the Injured Reserve List, Gay Jr. is the team's most productive run stopper. That's crucial against a dangerous Miami rushing attack that leads the NFL in yards per attempt (5.9).

The fourth-year linebacker has 31 tackles, 3.5 stuffs, 3 defended passes and a sack on the season, routinely shutting offenses down in the midst of a career-best year.

Facing the Dolphins without Bolton is tough enough, but losing Gay Jr. as well would leave the Chiefs at a big disadvantage.

McKinnon has had limited involvement in the offense through eight weeks, though he's the team's most reliable pass-catcher out of the backfield and a proven blocker. Perhaps most importantly, he can spell Isiah Pacheco when the lead back needs a breather.

We'll see if Gay Jr. and McKinnon are able to play on Sunday, but their availability would go a long way towards picking up a critical victory.
