It's a sorrowful "Victory Monday" in Kansas City after the heartbreaking knee injury star WR Rashee Rice suffered early in the contest. The Chiefs managed to rebound and win the Week 4 matchup with the Chargers, though there's suddenly a dark cloud hanging over the team.

QB Patrick Mahomes gave his first comments on the news after the game. He made a poor throw that was intercepted, then accidentally dove into Rice's knee when trying to make a tackle. In essence, he had the biggest role in what happened.

Speaking to the media, Mahomes noted he just hopes that the test results don't confirm the worst.

Patrick Mahomes Breaks Silence on Rashee Rice Injury

"Rashee really made a good play," Mahomes said. "I was trying to make a play and rolled up on him. If I don't turn the ball over, that never happens."

While it's impossible to fully blame Mahomes for a freak injury like that, it's a difficult pill to swallow knowing that he's right. Injuries happen in football all of the time, but this is a particularly brutal one.

He added, "All we can do is pray that the MRI's and X-ray's are better than it looked."

Through three games, Rice had become one of the best WRs in the NFL with 24 catches, 288 yards and two TDs. If he does wind up out for the year, the Chiefs' offense has to recreate itself on the fly.

Mahomes is a tremendous leader and clearly felt awful about what happened. Hopefully, Rice will make a full recovery and be back on the field as soon as possible.
