Patrick Mahomes Delivers Touching TIME100 Speech
By Joe Summers
Patrick Mahomes was honored at the TIME100 Gala on Sunday night, recognizing the three-time Super Bowl MVP as one of the 100 most influential people on the planet.
It's an incredible recognition of Mahomes' contributions both on and off the field, as he's risen from first-round NFL draft pick to virtually unanimously being considered the best player in the league. Mahomes gave a stellar speech, using the opportunity to recognize the rising popularity of women's sports across the country.
See what he had to say below.

"Tonight," Mahomes began. "I'd like to raise a glass to a new era in sports. An era when the women's game is finally getting the attention it deserves."
Mahomes spoke about the well-intentioned notion that people should watch women's sports because it aligns with specific values. "There's some merit to that," he said, "but the real reason you should care about women's sports is because they're incredible."
He recounted a few amazing performances throughout the year and urged the audience to look up A'ja Wilson's WNBA highlights to see for themselves. Mahomes talked about the KC Current, the team he and his wife, Brittney, are co-owners of, and the recently-opened CPKC Stadium as the first stadium ever built specifically for a women's team.
This toast perfectly illustrated why Mahomes is deserving of the TIME100 honor. Instead of using this moment to reflect on the Chiefs' accomplishments, he instead turned the focus to women's sports and uplifting those leagues.
"Here's a toast to the greatness that is women's sports," Mahomes concluded. "It's been happening and I'm glad the world is catching on."
